Καλύτερες επιδόσεις σε εφαρμογές JavaScript για τον Firefox 3.1

Ο Firefox θα τρέχει τις εφαρμογές web [όπως π.χ. το Gmail] αισθητά πιο γρήγορα απ' ό,τι οι προηγούμενες εκδόσεις του browser, χάρη στην ενσωμάτωση στην επερχόμενη έκδοση 3.1 ενός νέου χαρακτηριστικού, του Trace Monkey – όλα αυτά σύμφωνα με ισχυρισμούς ηγετικού στελέχους του Mozilla Foundation. Συγκεκριμένα, παρ' ότι η JavaScript χρησιμοποιείται εδώ και χρόνια για την παροχή πλούσιων σε χαρακτηριστικά εφαρμογών Internet, μέχρι πρόσφατα η αξιοποίησή της είχε ως αποτέλεσμα τη σημαντική μείωση της ταχύτητας απόκρισης. Αυτό είχε ως παράπλευρη επίπτωση τη μεταστροφή αρκετών web developers στη χρήση του Adobe Flash αντί της JavaScript. Το Mozilla Foundation ελπίζει ότι, χάρη στο TraceMonkey, αυτή η κατάσταση θα αντιστραφεί, καθώς το εν λόγω χαρακτηριστικό θα δίνει θεωρητικά ταχύτητα απόκρισης εφάμιλλη με αυτή μιας εφαρμογής desktop σε όλες τις εφαρμογές Web 2.0 που χρησιμοποιούν JavaScript.

O Mike Shaver, αντιπρόεδρος του Mozilla Foundation στο τμήμα ανάπτυξης, δήλωσε ότι οι επιδόσεις στην JavaScript στην έκδοση 3.1 του Firefox θα είναι τουλάχιστον δύο φορές καλύτερες από αυτές του Firefox 3.0 [με σημείο αναφοράς το test Spider της Sun]. Αυτό, σύμφωνα με τον Shaver, θα δώσει τη δυνατότητα ανάπτυξης εφαρμογών JavaScript και σε ιδιαίτερα απαιτητικούς τομείς, όπως επεξεργασία γραφικών και 3D modeling.

Η πρώτη beta του Firefox 3.1 θα κυκλοφορήσει στο τέλος της χρονιάς.

Έρχεται ο ασφαλέστερος Internet Explorer

Τηρώντας το χρονοδιάγραμμά της, η Microsoft ανακοίνωσε την Τετάρτη την κυκλοφορία της δεύτερης beta του Internet Explorer 8, μιας έκδοσης που έχει αναπτυχθεί με βαρύτητα στη σταθερότητα λειτουργίας και την ασφάλεια.

Στις νέες λειτουργίες της έκδοσης Beta 2 συγκαταλέγεται και το "InPrivate Browsing" [γνωστό και ως "Porno-Modus" επειδή μέσω αυτής της λειτουργίας θα μπορούσε όποιος μπαίνει σε "πονηρά" sites, να εμποδίσει κάποιον τρίτο να εντοπίσει αυτήν του τη δραστηριότητα]. Όταν αυτό το mode είναι ενεργοποιημένο, ο browser δεν αποθηκεύει κανένα δεδομένο στον τοπικό υπολογιστή - όλα [cookies, προσωρινά αρχεία του Internet, κωδικοί πρόσβασης κ.λπ.] σβήνονται αυτόματα μόλις κλείσει ο browser. Ενεργοποιείται, δε, με την επιλογή του Security από το μενού InPrivate ή με το συνδυασμό πλήκτρων [Ctrl]+[Shift]+[P].

Επεμβάσεις έχουν γίνει και στη λειτουργία καρτελών του browser. Όταν επιχειρήσει κάποιος να ανοίξει ένα site από ένα link σε ένα νέο tab, τότε το tab ανοίγει ακριβώς δεξιά από το ενεργό παράθυρο του IE και όχι τέρμα δεξιά, όπως γινόταν μέχρι τώρα. Εκτός αυτού, το tab του νέου site και το tab που περιείχε το link από το όποιο άνοιξε το νέο site, εμφανίζονται στο ίδιο χρώμα. Αυτή η ομαδοποίηση των καρτελών έχει ως στόχο να προσφέρει καλύτερη εποπτεία των sites που έχετε ανοίξει. Μια ακόμα ευκολία που προσφέρει ο IE 8, είναι το ταυτόχρονο κλείσιμο όλων των tabs του ίδιου γκρουπ. Και ένα ακόμη πρακτικό χαρακτηριστικό: μέχρι τώρα, όταν άνοιγε κανείς ένα tab, εμφανιζόταν ένα κενό παράθυρο. Αυτό αλλάζει στο Internet Explorer 8, καθώς σε μια τέτοια περίπτωση ο browser προσφέρει πολυάριθμες δυνατότητες [όπως το να ανοίξετε τα tabs που κλείσατε τελευταία].

Accelarators

Ήδη στην έκδοση beta 1 υπήρχε μια νέα λειτουργία στην οποία η Microsoft είχε δώσει την ονομασία "Activities". Αυτή έχει μετονομαστεί στη beta 2 σε "Accelerators" και έχει την έννοια της γρήγορης πληροφόρησης. Όταν μαρκάρετε, για παράδειγμα, μια λέξη σε ένα site του Web και ακολούθως κάνετε κλικ με το δεξί πλήκτρο του ποντικιού, θα εμφανιστεί ένα μενού με διάφορες προτάσεις για το τι θα μπορούσατε να κάνετε, όπως το να στείλετε την επιλεγμένη λέξη με mail μέσω του Windows Live Hotmail, να δημιουργήσετε μια νέα καταχώρηση blog στο Windows Live ή ακόμα και να τη μεταφράσετε με το Windows Live.

Και όπως γίνεται με τα RSS feeds, θα μπορεί κανείς να γίνει συνδρομητής στα Webslices ενός site [τα οποία θα εμφανίζονται στα favorites].

Προστασία από κατάρρευση

Ανάμεσα στους υπόλοιπους νεωτερισμούς που αξίζει να σημειώσει κανείς, περιλαμβάνεται και μια λειτουργία προστασίας από "κρεμάσματα". Συγκεκριμένα, πρόκειται για το "Automatic Crash Recovery" [ACR], το οποίο, όταν ο browser "κρασάρει", φροντίζει να ανακατασκευάσει στην επόμενη εκκίνησή του όλα τα περιεχόμενα και τα tabs που ήταν ανοικτά τη στιγμή της κατάρρευσης. Αυτό το κάνει ήδη ο Firefox, έτσι δεν είναι; Η διαφορά με τον IE είναι ότι ο τελευταίος μπορεί να περιορίσει το crash σε ένα tab. Αν, λοιπόν, καταρρεύσει μια σελίδα που ανοίγει σε ένα tab, αυτό ξανα-ανοίγει, αφήνοντας τα υπόλοιπα tabs ανεπηρέαστα.

Η έκδοση beta 2 είναι διαθέσιμη για download σε παραλλαγές για τα λειτουργικά συστήματα Windows XP, Vista Windows Server 2003 και Server 2008. Αρκετά λιτή, μόλις 12,7ΜΒ, είναι η έκδοση για τα Vista. Chrome: η Google κυκλοφορεί το δικό της browser

Η Google έδωσε στη δημοσιότητα την ημερομηνία κυκλοφορίας του browser που έχει αναπτύξει η ίδια και φέρει την κωδική ονομασία Chrome. Με αυτό τον τρόπο η "βασίλισσα" του Web κάνει το εδώ και καιρό αναμενόμενο βήμα, να εισχωρήσει στην αγορά των browsers αμφισβητώντας την κυριαρχία της Microsoft με τον Internet Explorer. Η Google ανακοίνωσε νωρίτερα την ημερομηνία κυκλοφορίας του browser της καθώς το σχετικό κόμικς που ανέπτυξε για τη διαφημιστική προβολή του Chrome, βγήκε στο Internet. Έτσι, το Chrome θα διατίθεται για download από την Τρίτη. Αρχικά θα υπάρχει μόνο έκδοση για Windows, στα σκαριά ωστόσο βρίσκονται εκδόσεις για το Mac OS X και το Linux. - Η εταιρεία περιγράφει το Chrome ως έναν εξελιγμένο browser που θα μπορεί να απεικονίσει καλύτερα τα sites με δυναμικό και interactive περιεχόμενο, τα οποία, εξαιτίας της ανόδου της IP TV και του online ραδιοφώνου, τα συναντά κανείς όλο και πιο συχνά στο Web. Σκοπεύει, δε, εκμεταλλευόμενη την εμπειρία της στο Web, να προσφέρει μέσω του Chrome μια καλύτερη διαδικτυακή εμπειρία.

Όπως πιστεύει η Google, σήμερα δε χρειαζόμαστε έναν απλό browser αλλά μια μοντέρνα πλατφόρμα για σελίδες και εφαρμογές του Web, όπως είναι το Chrome. Το τελευταίο προσφέρει ένα απλό και συνοπτικό interface και κάνει όλη τη δουλειά στο background. Σήμερα, δεν είναι πλέον ο browser που βρίσκεται στο επίκεντρο του ενδιαφέροντος, αλλά οι σελίδες του Web και οι σχετικές εφαρμογές, που συνθέτουν το Internet.

Κατά βάση, το Chrome θα είναι ένας browser που θα αποδίδει καλύτερα με τις τωρινές εφαρμογές του Web. Όλα τα tabs θα τρέχουν σε ένα απομονωμένο "sandbox", οπότε το κρέμασμα ενός tab θα αφήνει ανεπηρέαστα όλα τα υπόλοιπα, προσφέροντας παράλληλα περισσότερη προστασία έναντι των επικίνδυνων σελίδων του Web. Επιπλέον, θα χρησιμοποιείται μια πανίσχυρη μηχανή JavaScript, με την ονομασία V8, που θα επιτρέπει την εκτέλεση της επόμενης γενιάς web services, κάτι που δεν είναι εφικτό με τους τωρινούς browsers.

Η Google χρησιμοποίησε για την ανάπτυξη των βασικών συστατικών του browser της διάφορα "components" από τα Apples Webkit, Mozilla Firefox και άλλα ελεύθερα projects. Ο browser της θα παρέχεται επίσης με άδεια Open Source, ώστε μια μεγάλη κοινότητα προγραμματιστών και εθελοντών να συμμετέχει στην περαιτέρω εξέλιξή του.

One of the biggest improvements to Dreamweaver takes place behind the scenes. Το παράνομο λογισμικό είναι ακριβό, αναξιόπιστο και διώκεται από το νόμο

Αθήνα, 30 Ιουλίου 2008

H εγκατάσταση και χρήση πειρατικών προγραμμάτων λογισμικού συνεπάγεται υψηλά οικονομικά πρόστιμα, αλλά και τεχνικούς και λειτουργικούς κινδύνους για το δίκτυο Η/Υ μιας επιχείρησης, προειδοποιεί η Business Software Alliance (BSA). Σύμφωνα με ανακοίνωση της Υπηρεσίας Ειδικών Ελέγχων (ΥΠ.Ε.Ε) του Υπ. Οικονομικών, που αναρτήθηκε πρόσφατα στην σχετική ιστοσελίδα, έχει ξεκινήσει η διαδικασία για την αποστολή προσκλήσεων υποβολής δήλωσης απογραφής λογισμικού σε επιχειρήσεις που απασχολούν από 15 έως και 19 υπαλλήλους. Επιτόπιοι έλεγχοι θα πραγματοποιηθούν στις επιχειρήσεις που δεν ανταποκρίνονται στις προσκλήσεις ή υποβάλλουν ελλειπή στοιχεία.

Σε μελέτη που πραγματοποίησε η BSΑ σε μικρομεσαίες επιχειρήσεις διαπιστώθηκε άγνοια -50% των ερωτηθέντων- για τη νομιμότητα των προγραμμάτων λογισμικού που χρησιμοποιούν και συνεπώς έλλειψη γνώσης για τους κινδύνους που κρύβει. Το λογισμικό που δεν έχει αγορασθεί απ’ ευθείας από τον κατασκευαστή ή αξιόπιστο μεταπωλητή, ή δεν έχει εγκατασταθεί από αξιόπιστες πηγές στο Διαδίκτυο, συχνά περιέχει ιούς ή κακόβουλο λογισμικό. Επιπλέον, ο χρήστης δεν δικαιούται τεχνική υποστήριξη ενώ ενδέχεται και να μην μπορεί να πραγματοποιήσει δωρεάν αναβαθμίσεις.

Σε ότι αφορά στις νομικές κυρώσεις, βάσει της ελληνικής νομοθεσίας οι αρμόδιες κρατικές αρχές που θα εντοπίσουν πειρατικό λογισμικό σε Η/Υ θα επιβάλλουν διοικητικό πρόστιμο €1.000 για κάθε παράνομο πρόγραμμα. Παραδείγματος χάριν, εάν σε ένα δίκτυο 17 Η/Υ, που δεν φέρει νόμιμη άδεια χρήσης για 17 χρήστες εντοπισθεί το ίδιο πρόγραμμα λογισμικού εγκατεστημένο σε κάθε υπολογιστή, θα επιβληθεί πρόστιμο €17.000.

Στο πλαίσιο αυτό, η BSA (μέσω της ιστοσελίδας της www.bsa.org/hellas) παρέχει χρήσιμα εργαλεία και συμβουλές για την ορθή διαχείριση πόρων λογισμικού, καθώς και λεπτομέρειες που αφορούν στην ελληνική νομοθεσία για την προστασία των πνευματικών δικαιωμάτων. Απλές διαδικασίες, όπως η εφαρμογή ενός ολοκληρωμένου προγράμματος διαχείρισης πόρων λογισμικού και η επιβολή κανόνων χρήσης Η/Υ στους υπαλλήλους, εξασφαλίζουν σε μια επιχείρηση νομιμότητα, βέλτιστη απόδοση και παραγωγικότητα.

Από το 2006 έως και σήμερα η ΥΠΕΕ έχει αποστείλει συνολικά 9.473 επιστολές σε επιχειρήσεις που απασχολούν περισσότερους από 20 εργαζόμενους για την υποβολή δήλωσης απογραφής λογισμικού. Στις περιπτώσεις που εντοπίσθηκαν ανεπαρκή στοιχεία αλλά και στις εταιρίες που δεν ανταποκρίθηκαν στην πρόσκληση υποβολής, τα κλιμάκια της ΥΠΕΕ πραγματοποίησαν ελέγχους και όπου παρουσιάστηκαν παραβάσεις υπεβλήθησαν διοικητικά πρόστιμα €1.000 για κάθε παράνομο πρόγραμμα λογισμικού.
