Microsoft Vista SP1 and XP SP3 are back! Let the downloading commence

Microsoft Vista SP1 and XP SP3 are back! Let the downloading commenceAfter compatibility issues last week many of you may already be aware that Vista SP1 and XP SP3 were delayed. They are now back with a vengeance, available for download since last night. I know just how excited you guys are to download these service packs which will greatly enhance your operating system adding much needed fixes, with a side of glitches in Vista SP1’s case.

The service packs are now available through the regular Windows Update and the Microsoft Download Center. The compatibility issue Microsoft faced last week was related to Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System or RMS for short. RMS is a point-of-sale (POS) system, for retail chains or enterprise level businesses requiring transaction management.

The way Microsoft fixed the compatibility issue was to just bypass RMS customers altogether by using a filter which Microsoft spent about a week developing. So, it seems businesses relying on RMS must wait till later this month for a fix so that they may also enjoy all the glory the service packs will bring.

According to PC Advisor Microsoft has indicated a beta fix is already in the works for those RMS customers, so it seems Microsoft is on top of the problem, which is great news.

I know some of you have been waiting forever for Vista Service Pack 1, and I truly know the frustration you have been feeling. I’ve been in the Microsoft Discussion Groups and I’ve seen how nasty it has gotten in there. Now if we can get all the hardware compatibility issues straightened out by the next service pack, it should be smooth sailings after that.
